1930s Antique Collectible Candy Coin Op Vending Machine Hershey Chocolate
Antique Vending Machine Coin Op 1 cent Hershey Chocolate Collectible Penny Candy. A fantastic piece of history! PROVENANCE: This was owned by a Mr. Marincic of Oglesby, IL. He & his brothers operated several businesses in Oglesby/Jonesville, IL & LaSalle County Illinois. They operated a bar called Shines Tap. That bar still stands today at the same location. They also had a building on the grounds where the made their own potato chips. The building had a fire which ended the potato chip production. The potato chips were made under Gold Award Products label. They had a route serving taverns in LaSalle County, IL. At a penny per chocolate bar its hard to imagine how it was profitable! The vending machine was found by Mr. Marincics son Bob in a building on the same property as the bar, it was hidden up in the attic for over 70 years. It was discovered with many other antiques & collectible pieces when the building was being torn down. It was quite rusty & needed careful restoration to return it to full glory! Restored Hershey Chocolate Bar Vending Machine. This vending machine company was based out of Minneapolis, Minnesota USA. How it worksdrop a penny into the slot, pull the lever forward & down slides your chocolate bar, it works with the fun size bars but they are actually smaller than the size of bar required for this machine! RESTORATION: this originally was chrome plated, all the chrome plating failed & there was lots of rust on outside. The tiny rubber feet are missing but the unit stands solid. & stable, you might as self adhesive felt pads if you so desire to protect any sensitive surface it sits on! Everything was cleaned & buffed, the working mechanisms oiled. I chose a brown that looks like the brown milk chocolate of a Hershey bar. The lever works perfectly & strong & solid. The key & lock work great! The key is a replacement! The result is a stunning looking piece, the original cardboard sign colors complemented by the milk chocolate brown paint make this a very attractive piece that will get rave reviews! All the best, Bryan. Base4 1/2 x 6 1/2. Depth just above base5 1/4. Depth at top & middle2 3/4.
