Oak Acorn Gumball Vending Machine Penny/Nickle Combination Coin Mechanism
Oak Acorn Gumball Vending Machine Penny/Nickle Combination Coin Mechanism. This very scarce (almost rare) dual-coin Oak Acorn gumball vender permits use of either penny or nickel operation. Inserting a penny allows the handle to be cranked one turn only, whereas a nickel lets the customer rotate the handle five full turns and dispense a total of five gumballs. The vending gate size is currently set for 1 gumballs, but is fully adjustable to accommodate different size balls or even different types of candy. I have owned this gumball machine for over 35 years and have filled it with every type of candy imaginable, depending upon my daughters particular taste in candy at the time. These dual-coin combination vendors were notorious for occasionally malfunctioning, sporadically dispensing five gumballs for a mere penny. Although plenty of children appreciated the design, this noteworthy glitch has contributed greatly towards the models scarcity as profits plummeted whenever one malfunctioned. This particular machine is no exception to the design flaw and operates inconsistently, seemingly more susceptible to the newer zinc-based pennies but has glitched with older copper coins as well. Much less frequently, the machine will also occasionally dispense only a single gumball for a nickel. If this machine is intended for actual vending purposes, it is recommended the coin mechanism be completely disassembled and thoroughly cleaned first. Better yet, replace mechanism with dime or quarter coin capability. The gumball machine is supplied with a non-standard 6 oz. Military-grade desiccant bag to be placed in the lower coin vault assembly to help absorb moisture and keep candy fresher longer. The bag is good for up to a year, depending upon humidity, and can be recharged simply by placing into a conventional oven set to 200 degrees and left overnight. It can be used over and over again. The gumball machine is attached to a solid oak wood base using recessed bolts that are secured directly to the standard mounting points on the machine’s base assembly. 9-3/8 (w) x 9-3/8 (d) x 2-1/2 (h). 6-3/8 (w) x 6-3/8 (d) x 13-3/4 (h). 9-3/8 (w) x 9-3/8 (d) x 16-1/4 (h). 12 lbs 9 oz (no desiccant bag). 13 lbs 1 oz (w/ desiccant bag). 21 x 12-1/2 x 12-1/2. 17 lbs 0 oz. One (1) Oak Acorn Gumball Vending Machine with solid oak base. One (1) Lock/Key Combination. One (1) Desiccant Bag. NOT Included in Listing. Gumballs shown in photos are NOT included in this listing. Used, excellent working order and outstanding cosmetic condition. No dents, dings, significant scratches, or missing hardware. Minor flaking of chrome plating on coin mechanism. Coin mechanism requires cleaning and/or adjustment to improve penny operation consistency if machine is to be used for actual vending purposes. As a heavy, fragile item, the gumball machine will be double boxed with sufficient dunnage and packing material to protect the glass globe. Typically, US domestic transit time runs approximately 3-7 days, excluding weekends and holidays, and may vary depending upon package destination.
