Diamond Match Company 1c Vending Machine. The Diamond Match Company Vending Machine made by Beaton & Cadwell Co of New Britain Con pat. Machine has a stamping on the front bottom saying American made matches. Machine works by placing a coin in the slot on the front and pinching the two knobs together. The front face display can be adjusted by the store owner and loaded with 1 to 4 books of matches for a penny. Instructions for machine operation are inside the cover. Machine does have some fading of the graphics which is not unusual for a machine that is over 100 years old. The machine is in working condition.

For sale is a really cool early Diamond Matches coin operated machine. This does have some scratches, scuffs and wear but overall it is a neat old piece. There is no key and this is untested. Extremely rare piece manufactured by the Diamond Novelty Company out of Syracuse, New York. They were manufactures and dealers of card machines, slot machines, carnival shooting galleries, doll racks, trade stimulators and other various machines in the late 19th and early 20th century. Painted red with gold lettering. Overall great condition for its age with only minor signs of wear from age and use. Base measures approx 4.75″ x 4 3/8″ and height is shown in the last photo. Displays well and is guaranteed old/original. Condition shown in photos. Vintage Diamond Matches Early Rare Advertising Coin Op Vending Collectible Penny Matchbook Dispenser. Early 1900’s roughly 1910’s or 1920’s, every bit of 100 years old. Definitely a rare piece, only a handful of these left. Looks like one or two bullet holes see side and inside divider photos, in addition to some damage on the back it does not close 100% flush, almost like it was broken into as part of a robbery. Maybe Butch Cassidy himself shot this dispenser… Or Bonnie and Clyde? Or some other outlaw thief? Let your imagination run wild as you ponder the possible history of this machine. Condition Notes: There is rust/corrosion all over. Lettering is faded in spots but can be read with enough light. I do not believe it is operational in current condition, would be a display piece or need restoration to be functional. I don’t see a number wheel behind the glass plate that would count down the number of remaining match books. The center bolt is bent a little and is missing the turning dial/key on the front. And again note the bullet holes on exterior sides and interior dividers as well as damage to top of back piece possibly from thief trying to pry open during the heist! Due to the bullets the casing/shell? Is not 100% symmetrical so it does take some wiggling to get the inner divider piece in and out. Measures about 14″ x 11″ x 8.
